Areas of Practice:
Ivan Karmel is a trial lawyer. He has tried libel and slander cases, medical malpractice, product liability involving defective ladders, fishing vessels, airplanes, and vehicles, slip and fall, automobile personal injury, probate litigation, business dissolution, property and boundary disputes, real estate disputes, construction defects of both residential and commercial structures, various administrative matters before the Oregon Lottery commission, the contractors builders board, various professional boards including the medical board, board of nursing, board of clinical social workers, and the Oregon liquor control commission. Ivan has advocated extensively on behalf of parents who are sexual minorities and their children. He has extensive experience in family law matters involving allegations of sexual abuse, custody litigation and the valuation of business assets in the context of divorce. Ivan regularly appears before the family courts in Multnomah, Clackamas, Washington Counties and Clark County, Washington. Ivan was an "A felony" rated public defender and over the years has acquired extensive experience representing persons charged with major felonies (both person and non-person offenses), drug crimes and DUII.

Ivan has appeared extensively in the juvenile courts on behalf of parents and children in his nearly thirty year career beginning with his stint with the Metropolitan Public Defenders office in Hillsboro Oregon nearly thirty years ago.
